Best safeTstep Shoes
One of the most important pieces of equipment for nurses also happens to be one of the most underrated. Proper footwear is a must for any profession that involves long periods on your feet. Furthermore, add in the factor that these professions don't always involve walking or standing on the same type of surface, plus the fact that there may be spills or ice around that can make the ground really slippery, and the need for comfortable and slip-resistant shoes becomes apparent.
In one of our previous articles, we reviewed the best shoes for nurses, and we prioritized showing a variety of different brands and styles so that you could see what is typically available, and how the different options compare and contrast with each other.
However, in this article, we are going to focus on one of the more popular and functional brands of shoes for those who want stay safe by preventing falls, while still being able to walk around in a really comfortable pair of shoes. One of the shoes we highlight here (Men's Blast Runner) was on our list of the best shoes for nurses, but many others could have made the cut as well.
Therefore, in this article, we will review our Top 10 men's and women's safeTstep shoes. These shoes are known to be highly functional and slip-resistant, while still being very comfortable. Please keep in mind that while these shoes are great for lots of different professions, this is a site for nurses, and as such, we will be placing a focus on safeTstep shoes that are good for that setting. Essentially, we omitted open-foot flats, as well as taller boots, but safeTstep has those types of shoes available as well.

These shoes have a more casual look, but not to the extent that they're sporty. They include the same safeTstep features, as well as normal laces.
Our favorite safeTstep shoes for female nurses. More breathable than most safeTstep shoes, with all the same slip-resistant features. Sportier look is nice, too.
Men's safeTstep Shoes
While it’s mostly female nurses that seem to be shopping around for good nursing shoes, the reality is that there are also lots of male nurses looking to invest in a reliable footwear brand to stand up to their demanding careers.
The problem is this: there are a lot of shapes and sizes out there, and most of them tend to cost an arm and a leg. Male medical professionals also need to find a fit that will carry them through the night shifts and still feel comfortable to wear.

A Closer Look
In this section we will provide a closer look at our two favorite pairs of safeTstep shoes - one pair for women, and one pair for men. We selected these as our favorites because we feel they provide the best all-around value, and in our experience, we tend to find the running shoe style to be a little more comfortable and applicable to a nursing setting.
As you may have already figured out, safeTstep prioritizes function over appearance, which in reality, is a good thing. They have enough different models available that you should be able to find something that looks good while still performing the way to need them to. In our opinion, the best balance in this case were the Women's Avail Flex Running Shoes.
Unlike a lot of other models, these shoes incorporate a more breathable synthetic leather, which can definitely make a difference towards the end of a long 12-hour shift. It also decreases the weight slightly, as most running shoes do when compared to their more formal counterparts.
Even though the design looks more lightweight, sporty, and even casual, these non-slip shoes still provide the same level of slip-resistance and oil-resistance, and the sole won't leave any marks on the floor. The water-resistant fabric on the top of the shoe will also help guard you against spills, keeping your feet dry and cool.
Overall, these are a great value pair of safeTstep shoes that many different people could benefit from, not just nurses. However, the sporty running shoe design facilitates comfort, especially while walking, and won't look out of place with a pair of scrubs. Additionally, by shoe standards, these are also quite cheap, and while still being durable and performing well, this means they offer great bang-for-your-buck. If you prefer something that is super comfortable, but don't need all the non-slip and oil-resistant features (or at least not to the same extent as this brand), we would suggest the Skechers Sport Women's Nursing Shoes.
First impressions are often brought on by appearance. In this this case, these running shoes have a clean and professional look with a sporty edge. They have an appearance that many would consider universal, in that they can be worn in many different situations.
These shoes were made with prolonged wearing in mind, so they can basically be used anywhere, for as long as you need them. They are non-slip and coated with a water-resistant finish to help repel liquids that fall on the shoes, making them an ideal choice for preventing accidents in a hospital environment.
As far as the outsole goes, it’s oil-and-slip resistant, but the shoe is still breathable thanks to the ventilation that the mesh layer allows for. These are lace-up safeTstep shoes, but they have a snug fit and sport a padded tongue for even more comfort, and the mesh layer adds another level of comfort to the deal. For even further comfort, try combining these with a pair of compression socks, which are also great for extended periods of standing or walking.
Overall, these are great non-slip shoes for men, especially nurses, for a lot of the same reasons that we like the Women's safeTstep Avail Flex Running Shoes. They are comfortable with a sporty, yet versatile, design, but still provide all the great slip-resistant, oil-resistant, and water-resistant features that we come to expect with the safeTstep brand.
Finding the Best safeTstep Shoes
Like anything else you wear, it's a good idea to be confident about the size of the shoe. Generally speaking, safeTstep shoes are known to run just slightly small; however, a lot of the time this is reported, it's simply due to a misunderstanding about the exact shoe size.
For example, when browsing through the different safeTstep shoes, you may notice that there are various options for the same number sizes. That is, if you're a size 7, you may see something like 7 B(M), or 7 C/D, etc. In this case, the letters that follow the number refer to the width of the shoe/foot. The scale typically ranges from A-B-C-D-E, where A is the most narrow and E is the widest. If you see something like 2A or AA, this pretty much means "extra" of that size (so extra narrow, or extra wide).
One thing worth noting: For women, the standard shoe width is usually B, whereas for men, the standard shoe width is D.
Lastly, if you are planning on wearing a brand new pair of these shoes to work, we would highly suggest breaking them in first, especially if you are anticipating a long shift (e.g. 6-12+ hours). This doesn't mean you have to wear them and stand up for days on end before going to work. Rather, you can simply wear them while sitting around and watching TV, and you can stand in them whenever you are normally on your feet.
As we mentioned previously, safeTstep shoes can sometimes run a little small, so if you find this is the case, try breaking them in with a thick pair of socks. Again, you don't have to do anything really special, just the same protocol as above. If you allow the shoes to stretch out a bit and the soles to conform to the shape of your feet, your first few shifts in them will be way better. Like any pair of shoes, they may take a little getting-used-to, especially if they are way different than your last pair of shoes, but this should gradually diminish over time, with the advantages becoming more and more apparent.
We can't tell you what to go for in this category, as it's based purely on your personal preferences and requirements of your job (or wherever you may be wearing them). One thing to consider is that the running shoe style safeTstep shoes usually incorporate more mesh material, or at least perforated leather, which helps ventilate your feet while you wear them. This can be great for extra long shifts indoors or outside on a warm day.
Otherwise, they also makes lots of other shoes with a more professional or formal appearance, and they also provide much more lightweight shoes in the form of flats and heels, which is usually more applicable to women. In any case, safeTstep has made sure to create a wide variety of shoes with their well-known slip-, oil-, and water-resistant technology.
The market might be flooded with all the latest and greatest, and we certainly provided a good number of safeTstep shoes we feel are worth considering. That being said, two shoes did rise above the rest, and these were the safeTstep Women's Avial Flex Running shoes and the safeTstep Men's Blast Runner shoes. Much of our evaluation was based on performance, appearance, and wearing comfort, and we found these shoes are definitely capable of supporting and carrying you through another long and rewarding night of nursing, and they employ numerous practical features as well, such as water-resistance and stain-resistance.
